There are a multitude of things can cause a yeast infection. These factors can be quite innocuous, like wearing tight jeans or pantyhose to taking certain kinds of very common medications like antibiotics or birth control pills. Worst of all, the infection is most common among women who are approximately of child-bearing age. It can begin with a mild itching in the vaginal area. The good news, however, is that it isn't hard to fight yeast infection. It can even be dealt with effectively at home.

One way to fight yeast infection is to use apple cider vinegar on a cotton wool ball. Lightly dab the ball on the infected area. It could lead to a mild stinging sensation but this can be alleviated by adding some crushed fresh garlic to the vinegar. Normally, this will leave a garlic odor but you can reduce this too by adding water to the solution.

Yogurt can be very helpful to fight yeast infection. You can add a small amount to a tampon before inserting it as you normally would. You can do this twice a day until your symptoms are gone. Be sure that your yogurt is clearly marked and kept away from the rest of your food in the refrigerator.

One effective remedy to fight yeast infection at home is to blend grapefruit seed oil and olive leaf extract with a small amount of water, and then apply the mixture with a cotton ball. You may also obtain the same result with raw garlic juice. Just rub it on the affected area.

Yeast infection is attributed to a fungus called Candida which is normally present in your body anyway. If you're not experiencing any of the symptoms of yeast infection, such as burning, itching, etc., there is no need to treat it. It many even go away on its own.

In addition to yeast infection being extremely treatable, it is also very preventable. The most effective method is to eat yogurt every day, which will help make sure a yeast overgrowth does not occur. It also helps not to wear tight pants or underpants and to get out of your bathing suit as soon as possible after swimming. It is also important to avoid using douches, feminine sprays, and colored or scented toilet paper or tampons; all of these things can make a yeast infection worse.

If you have a yeast infection, especially a recurring one, you should always consult with your physician. If symptoms flare up when a visit to the doctor is not available, you may want to try some home remedies for relief of symptoms and to fight yeast infection. For pregnant women, treatment differs and it is important to seek medical attention promptly and not attempt to fight yeast infection yourself.
